Young Thug as paintings

I was in the process of perusing the Fader, one of my favorite magazines of all time, when I came across the GOAT – Hajar Benjida. Hajar is a photography student based in the Netherlands who’s a bit younger than me, but damn cooler, and she is the owner of the iconic Young Thug as paintings Instagram. When you visit the page you’ll immediately notice and hopefully smile at the short and concise bio: this is literally my school project. When tasked with finding an artist to be inspired by she really made the project her own by creating a series of images of Young Thug just Thuggin in all his glory juxtaposed with some of the world’s most esteemed paintings. This is true art – I mean the use of comparison is just genius and furthermore, there is some part of this that is a salute to the culture that Young Thug takes part in, embodies and creates without even batting an eye.

Outside of the school project, that now has 52.4k followers including Metro Boomin and sometimes Thug himself, Benjida photographs a number of pretty big artists backstage at their shows using a polaroid camera. I really love that piece there because its so organically social to want to capture people in some of their best moments. Amongst the stars are Swae Lee, Playboi Carti and Lil Yachty. Her work will be shown in the Miami Art Basel this year and in the meantime you can check out some of her work below.
